Black Hills High School

This was absolutly my favorite school to speak at so far. I spoke in two class rooms today, Mr. Reeves and Mrs. Dally. My presentation went well i thought and the students here were more engaged in my topic and speaking about their own personal feelings towards drinking and driving and as well as their experiences with peer pressure. I felt a good connection with these studnets and also the teachers. They thought it was wonderful that i was speaking about this issue and how devoted to it i am. I learned a lot from these students because they felt comfortable around me and opened up to me and i hope they learned from me as well. I figure if i can get my message through to at least one studnet im making a difference in my community one youth at a time. I hope that my message gets through to them all and that they are making healthy and responsible choices about drinking mixed with driving. Every twenty minutes someone dies from a drunk driver and they are on the roads we travel each day. According to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), about eighty percent of high school studnets have drank alcohol...so we know that drinking is stating at a young age and many youth are ignorant of the consequences of drinking and driving. This is where i come in. My platform has three components that i speak about and they are: the affects alcohol has on your body, laws of drunk driving and peer pressure. I beleive that youth have a connection with me because i am young and graduate high school three years ago, so i know what they are dealing with. I remember when i was in high school many of my peers did't listen to what teachers were saying because they felt they dont understand...high school is different now from then. I enjoy speaking to these youth and feel as they are learning from me, im also learning from them.
