Miss Seattle Pageant

Tonight was the Miss Seattle Pageant 2008. The winners of tonight will go to Miss Washington 2008. I love going to local pageants, there are always a lot of wonderful girls all vying for the title. It was nice to see the other local girls i competed with at Miss WA and to meet new title holders....well there was only one new one till after the pageant when the new ones were crowned. Miss Tri-Cities 2008, Kristen Cox is just a doll, and the newly crowned Seattle winners were Ada Rose Williams (Miss Emerald City 2008) and Allison Rone (Miss Seattle 2008 and was Miss Emerald City for 2007). Congrats to you both, and good luck to all of you at Miss WA.

Summer Ends Car Show

Its funny cause till i got to this event i was unawear that i was going to be working with Jerry from Roxy 94.5, who i had just met yesterday at the Home and Garden Show. We announced raffle winners on the stage and had a Roxy booth live. I also walked around the park where all the cars were and this one man told me to come see him and his corvette. He insisted i take a picture in his car...and i jumped in right away lol, i love corvettes. I ran into many adorable kids and gave them an autographed photo. Jerry and I got talking about what i do for work besides being Miss Thurston County, i told him i worked for Crazee Espresso which is closing on the twentith..in just a few days. He told me how he and the owner go way back and that he is going to have the Roxy roadshow at my espresso stand the day of closing so again....we will meet up.

Home and Garden Show

After going to BHHS, i attended the Home and Garden Show. I was partnered up with Mixx 96.1 announcing information....and well i was a bit chit chatty to so many people that after a few announcements he said that i should just mingle to people because so many people were interested in what i am doing as Miss Thurston County....so that's what i did. I talked till my voice started to sound scratchy...im good for that. I ran into the University of Washington hat guy again and had a long talk with him, he introduced me to his younger son and i talked with him for a bit. I should add that his son is a very intelligent child. I also saw many other community members i have volunteered with and met some new people. I ran into Jerry the Marketing Manager with Roxy 9405 and he put me on the radio to talk about the home and garden event. I told him about the MTC organization and gave him some info about the program in hopes that he will help with some marketing or sponsoring for our program. This women that was an usher at the door was very sweet, she asked me a lot of questions about the pageant and what i do as Miss Thurston County, she was just in ah of all my accomplishments and she told me "i hope my daughter turns out like you", i thought it was so sweet! I gave her some of my pageant appearance details and she said she is going to give it to her daughters teacher at Griffen Elementary so i can volunteer in her class room. The funny thing is i have volunteered there before in a kindergarten class already. Griffen Elementary is a great school, has great teachers, with great education for their students. After this long day i was ready to go home and go to sleep. My directors often exhaust me lol, they know i love them and they know I'm capable of all they have me do. After working two jobs and pageant appearances and ahh school starting I'm back to being a busy girl....but you know what i live a busy life and i wouldn't have it any other way.

Wow...they want me back again?

Black Hills High School is too good to me. They keep asking for me to come back and speak about my platform. I love it, it feels great to be loved! hahaha. I went to all the lunches for the school and spooke to students about the Miss Thurston County Scholarship Program and the benefits that young women gain from the program. I handed out flyers for our next pageant to senior girls and encouraged them to run for our pageant. I also spoke again in Dale Reeves traffic saftey class. It was a smaller class this time but again getting the message out there is whats important and that is what i was there for. I am just so pleased to have been asked to come back again, BHHS is a great school!!!

Rotary Speech

On Friday the 7th, I was the quest speaker at the South Puget Sound Rotary breakfast. When i arrived i was a bit nervous because i am so used to speaking to high school students and that is easy for me, but these were adults i was speaking for. The people that were beginning to come into the room seemed really nice so i thought to myself, "pull it together kara....you talk in front of people all the time, why get nervous now." So then this man sat next to me and said that we should go get some breakfast so i went with him and we got our breakfast....the food was awesome! I sat down at a table with this man and his other rotary friends. I felt very comfortable now, these people were great and were so interested in what i am doing as Miss Thurston County.

The president of the SPS Rotary spoke for awhile and others came up and said things as well. Their rituals were interesting on how they get everything started. They sang a song to the visitors which was me lol, and of course their was some others that were visiting too, i just like to think that they sang me a song lol. I was introduced by Mr. Johnson and then it was my turn to speak. I got up there to the podium and after i introduced myself, it was a piece of cake. I had fun speaking to them and explaining what it is i do as Miss Thurston County. My speech was about twenty minutes long containing information about myself, the Miss America Organization, Miss Thurston County Organization, my platform, and my legacy of what i want to leave behind when my year of service is over.

I am so excited to get another opportunity to do this again. I get nervous before i go up to give a speech but once its over i can not wait to do it again. Its funny cause a year ago i would never have been able to do this. It just takes someone to push you a little., thanks Wendi. Anyone can do anything they want to, you feel at times you cant do something but its just an obstacle you come face to face with. You might be scared for a moment but having someone to guide you and help you with that push heads you to a higher success.

I would like to put out a special thanks to my board....you have all helped me so much in the past six months that we have been together. I have achieved so much, and its because you all believe in me and what i can do. Thank you! Also, thank you to the SPS Rotary for having me at your Friday morning breakfast, i had a lot of fun getting to know you all!

TCC- Morning Mixxer

Another Mixxer, these are always fun! I didn't have to introduce myself to many this time because i have seen many of the business and chamber members around the community at my other events. I this time just mingled and talked to many people. I had a couple great conversations with some intelligent people. This one man there was so funny, he won a Washington State University hat as a door prize and his son goes to the University of Washington. Everyone laughed and he got to switch the hat to the school his son goes too. My director Wendi went as my travel companion and she won a football....yay or her! I feel really comfortable at the mixxer events because i know so many of the people at them. They compliment me all the time and say how great it is to have me at these events and how i represent the program well. At the end of a day i feel blessed to me Miss Thurston County and I'm glad that my community recognizes my efforts.

Sand in the city

This weekend I attended the Sand in the City event in Thurston County. This event is a fundraiser for the Children's Hands on Musem. There were many businesses of Thurston County who built these amazing sand castles. I worked with BECU which is a sponsor of Miss Thurston County Scholarship Program.

When I arrived at the event...i was definetly in for an adventure! As a child I always wondered how people made these extravagant sand castles. Well with in minutes i found out the secrets of the sand! Our display was titles "Wonders of Washington", we built a basket of apples, the capital building, grand coulee dam, and BECU of course. Working with the employees of BECU was a lot of fun and they made the experience overall wonderful.

The next day I worked at a face painting booth. At first i was a bit nervous to be painting art onto a childs face because i am not any kind of artist...my art looks like what kindergartener brings home to their parents...cute but much like picaso. The children were all so cute and were so excited to have their faces painted. I just loved to see them look into the mirror when i was finished because they would smile so big and were so excited. What a rewarding experience.
The women and her daughter i worked with at this booth were so sweet. I had a long talk with them before we started painting the childrens faces. They were so excited to work with me and hear about what i am doing as MTC. I explained to them about the Miss America Organization as well as Miss Washington and MTC. She was excited for me and all that i have accomplished as a young women who is striving to reach all my goals in life. I told her about my platform and why it is so close to my heart as well as my educational goals. She couldn't believe how much money in scholarships that the Miss America Organization has to offer and how much i already have recieved. This women opened my eyes even wider and made me realize how lucky i am to be a part of this program. Overall this event of Thurston County was a wonderful experience.
